Warming Kits Bringing Comfort and Care Across Starke County

This winter, United Way Northwest Indiana is proud to stand alongside our community partners to ensure neighbors across Starke County have access to warmth, dignity, and care when they need it most.

Thanks to a generous donation from Indiana United Ways and the continued support of our community, warming kits filled with essential winter items are making their way into the hands of children, families, and individuals facing cold weather challenges.

Supporting Children and Families Through Community Partnerships

We were honored to meet with the Starke County Youth Club to deliver warming kits for local children. These kits—filled with hats, gloves, and other winter essentials—will help keep kids warm during the cold months while supporting working families across the county.

The Starke County Youth Club plays a vital role in the community by providing safe, accessible, school-based programs where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Looking ahead, the Youth Club plans to collaborate with Kid’s Closet to ensure any child in need has access to warmth, comfort, and care—extending the impact of this effort even further.

Caring for Neighbors Experiencing Homelessness

United Way Northwest Indiana was also honored to connect with the Northern Indiana Community Foundation and Moving Starke County Forward to support Starke County’s Point-In-Time (PIT) Count that was held on January 28, 2026.

As part of this effort, we delivered warming kits containing hats, gloves, scarves, socks, blankets, lotion, lip balm, hot packs, and other essentials to help keep neighbors experiencing homelessness safe during winter conditions.

The PIT Count is more than a data collection effort—it’s about seeing people, understanding real needs, and ensuring Starke County can secure the resources and funding necessary to support individuals and families facing housing instability.

United Is the Way

These warming kit distributions reflect what’s possible when communities come together with compassion and purpose. Whether supporting children in after-school programs or caring for neighbors experiencing homelessness, every partnership helps build a stronger, healthier Northwest Indiana.

Together, United Is The Way.
